A recent Maytag commercial caught my attention. Representing their product, two Maytag repairman were moving down the highway, strapped to a flatbed truck. One said, “This is not a delivery; this is a deployment of dependability.” As Christians, we must be God’s deployment of dependability.

God is dependable in every way: in His physical blessings (Jas. 1:17; Mt. 5:45); in His spiritual promises (2 Cor. 1:18, 20; 1 Jn. 5:13); in providing strength in times of temptation (1 Cor. 10:33); and in providing companionship when we feel all alone (Rm. 3:4; Hb. 13:5).

We become like the One we serve and worship. He is holy and, therefore, we must be holy (1 Pet. 1:14-16). He is light and, therefore, we must become lights to the world around us (1 Jn. 1:5; Jn. 8:12). He is love and, therefore, we must love one another (1 Jn. 4:7-8).

It is required of servants to be found faithful (1 Cor. 4:1-2). Many of Christ’s parables teach this truth. Because we are told to go into all the world, we are God’s deployment of dependability (Mt. 28:19-20).

We must be dependable in prayer (1 Th. 5:17), dependable in speech (Mt. 5:37; Jas. 3:9-12), dependable in service (1 Cor. 15:58), and dependable in providing encouragement to one another (Hb. 10:24-25).

In the end, the faithful will overcome through the power of Jesus Christ and inherit life eternal (Rev. 2:10; 17:14). Can God depend on you?
