OBLIGATIONS OF CHURCH MEMBERSHIP
INTRODUCTION:
A. The Lord adds the saved to His church (Eph. 4:4-6; Col. 1:18; Eph. 1:22-23;
Acts 2:38, 41, 47; 1 Cor. 12:13).
B. The one body is comprised of local congregations (Acts 2:42-47; Rom. 16:16).
C. There are problems associated with a failure to understand and appreciate both the universal and the local nature of the Lord’s church.
D. Obligations associated with congregational membership:
I. MEETING TOGETHER TO WORSHIP GOD
A. A familiar passage (Heb. 10:24-25)
B. An apostolic example (Acts 20:7; 1 Cor. 16:1-2)
C. We must give local congregational worship a high priority.
II. SUBMISSION TO THE LOCAL ELDERS
A. Subjection (Heb. 13:17; Eph. 5:21; 1 Pet. 5:2)
B. What is NOT subjection (Heb. 13:20).
C. Attitude toward elders and the church (Acts 5:29; 1 Th. 5:13)
III. CONTRIBUTING TO THE WORK
A. Biblical teaching (1 Cor. 16:2; 9:7; Acts 20:35)
B. Considerations for giving to local congregation.
IV. CARING FOR ONE ANOTHER
A. We are responsible to one another (Tit. 2:2-6; Gal. 6:1-2).
B. Mark of true discipleship (Jn. 13:34-35; Rom. 13:8).
C. The proper working of each individual part (Eph. 4:16)
CONCLUSION:
A. Many other obligations associated with being a member of a local congregation
