THE ONE ARK AND THE ONE CHURCH

Introduction:

A. Significant ties between Old Testament events and New Testament principles (1 Pet. 3:20-21; 2 Pet 2:5; 1 Cor. 10:11).
B. Relationship between Noah and the ark and the oneness of Christ’s church.

I. Noah built only one ark/Christ built only one church

A. Noah built only one ark (Gen. 6:14; 7:1).
B. Jesus promised to build only one church (Mt. 16:18; Eph. 4:4-6; 1:22-23).
C. Denominationalism was never intended by our Lord (1 Cor. 1:10).

II. One way into the ark/one way into Christ’s church

A. Noah was told to include one door (Gen. 6:16).
B. There is only one way to enter the Christ’s church (Jn. 3:3-5; Gal. 3:26-27; Acts 2:37-38, 40-41, 46-47).
C. Jesus is the door (Jn. 10:9).

III. One source of light in the ark/one source of light in the church

A. Noah was told to put a window in the ark (Gen. 6:16; 8:6).
B. The gospel of Christ is the one source of light for His church (2 Cor. 4:3-6).
C. Let the light of the gospel shine! (Rm. 1:16; Hb. 4:12).

IV. One family in the ark/one family in the church

A. Noah’s was the only family in the ark (1 Pet. 3:20).
B. God’s family is the only family in the church (1 Tim. 3:15).

V. All needs were provided in the ark/all needs are provided in the church

A. Noah’s family spent over a year in the ark (Gen. 7:23-24).
B. How exciting it must have been to leave the ark! (Gen. 8:6-22).
C. Everything we need is provided in Christ and His church (Eph. 1:3; 2 Pet. 1:3).

VI. One danger related to the ark/one danger related to Christ and His church

A. Missing the ark meant certain death.
B. Missing Christ and His church spells certain disaster for us (2 Th. 1:7-9).

Conclusion:

A. There is still time to do something about the future (1 Pet. 3:21).
