Introduction:

A. We need to be open to the corrective teaching and guidance of the Lord (Ps. 139:23-24; Heb. 1:2-3; 4:12-13; 2 Cor. 10:4-5).

B. The problem is not with the message but with our reception of the message (Jas. 1:21-25).

C. Without spiritual self-examination, deception is inevitable (Rev. 3:1; 2 Cor. 13:5).

I. How Does A Church Get A Name For Being Alive?

A. Numerical growth (1 Cor. 3:6-7; Acts 5:33-39)

B. Material prosperity (Rev. 3:17; Lk. 18:24; Jas. 2:5; Rm. 16:5)

C. Social, political, or educational prominence (Acts 2:47; 14:22; 2 Tim. 3:16; Rm. 12:18; 2 Tim. 4:2; Lk. 8:11; Gal. 1:6-9; Rev. 22:18-19; Eph. 4:15; 1 Cor. 3:6-8)

D. High level of activity and excitement (1 Cor. 15:58)
