INTRODUCTION:

A. We are attracted to spectacular things.

B. The earthly ministry of Jesus was spectacular.
1. Shepherds (Lk. 2:8-9, 12)
2. Feeding 5,000 (Mk. 6:41-44)
3. Walking on water (Jn. 6:15-21)
4. Transfiguration (Mt. 17:5)
5. Miracles (Mt. 11:3-5)
6. Triumphal entry (Mk. 11:9-10
7. Death (Mt. 27:45, 51-52, 54)
8. Resurrection (Lk. 24:1-5)
9. Ascension (Acts 1:9-11)

C. Christianity is spectacular!

I. WE ARE THE SPECTACULAR CREATION OF GOD!

A. We are fearfully and wonderfully made (Ps. 139:14).

B. Our relationship to the rest of creation (Ps. 8:3-4; Rm. 1:20)

C. We are the special creation of God (Gen. 1:27; 2:7; Eccl. 3:11; Rm. 12:9; Mt. 22:37).

D. Sin marred God’s special creation (Rm. 13:14; Hb. 3:13).

II. THERE IS GOOD NEWS! WE CAN BE HIS SPECIAL RE-CREATION!

A. Second chances (2 Cor. 5:17; Jn. 3:3-5; Rm. 6:4)

B. Spectacular concepts related to spiritual rebirth:
1. Justification (Rm. 5:9)
2. Adoption (Gal. 4:4-5; 1 Jn. 3:1)
3. Transformation (Rm. 12:2; 8:29; 2 Cor. 3:18)

C. Spectacular things are going on!

III. DON’T OVERLOOK THE ORDINARY OR COMMON!

A. Why great expectations? (Eph. 2:10; Ph. 2:13; Mt. 28:20; Ph. 4:13).

B. Walking with family of God is spectacular! (2 Cor. 4:7).
C. What is spectacular about day to day Christianity?
1. Unselfish acts of loving service (Ph. 2:3-4; Mt. 9:36; Jn. 13:15)
2. Steadfast devotion in the face of difficulty (Mk. 8:35; Ph. 1:21; Gal. 2:20; Rm. 12:17; 1 Pet. 3:9)

CONCLUSION:

A. One final spectacular day is coming (1 Th. 4:16-17; 2 Th. 1:7; 2 Pet. 3:10).

B. Live in the atmosphere of the spectacular (Mt. 5:16; Ph. 2:15; Mt. 25:21;
Rev. 21:4-5).

C. Spectacular Christianity begins in the heart and transforms our lives.
