A Question of Purity (AM 9/20/20)

Introduction:

A. “How can a young man keep his way pure?” (Ps. 119:9 cf. 24:3-4; Mt. 5:8).

B. “By keeping it according to Your word” (Ps. 119:9 cf. Rm. 12:2).

C. We must keep our way pure (Eccl. 12:1; Ps.119:9-16).

I. Step One: Seek the Lord with all your heart (Ps. 119:10).

A. Seek the Lord (Mt. 7:7; 6:33).

B. Seek the Lord with all the heart (1 Sam. 16:7; Acts 1:24; Mt. 15:18; Ps. 119:2).

C. We are strangers but not wanderers (Ps. 119:10, 19; 1 Pet. 2:11; Ph. 3:20).

II. Step Two: Treasure up God’s word in your heart (Ps. 119:11).

A. There is a correlation between God’s word in the heart and purity of life
(Ps. 37:31).

B. Difference between casually reading Scripture and treasuring it up in the heart.

C. God’s word is the precious seed buried in the human heart.

III. Step Three: Praise the Lord and ask for His teaching (Ps. 119:12).

A. Placing God’s word in the heart comes with a desire to apply it in our lives
(Jas. 1:5).

B. How serious a student are you? (2 Tim. 3:15; 4:3-4; 1 Cor. 1:20; 2:5).

Conclusion:

A. We must keep our way pure!
