I. Purposed in the Mind of God

A. God is opposed to the proud and shows favor to the humble (Jas. 4:6; Mt. 23:12).

B. Pride is disgusting to the Lord (Prov. 6:16-17; 16:5; 8:13; 1 Cor. 10:12).

C. God’s purpose is that we live humble lives (Mic. 6:8).

II. Promised to His Disciples

A. Principle of spiritual gravity (Jas. 4:10; 1 Pet. 5:6)

B. Spiritual exaltation in this life (Mt. 5:3; 18:4)

C. We must humble self to be spiritually exalted (Prov. 11:2; Psa. 103:13-16; 1 Cor. 1:21; Rm. 3:23)

III. Proven in the Life of Jesus

A. Jesus practiced humility to the will of God (Ph. 2:8; Jn. 4:34).

B. Jesus practiced humility toward others (Mt. 20:28; Lk. 22:42).

C. Results of Christ’s humility (Ph. 2:9-11; Acts 2:32-33, 39; Lk. 11:14).

IV. Practiced in Our Lives

A. Constant sense of our own unworthiness (1 Cor. 15:10; Eph. 2:8-9; Rm. 12:3; Lk. 17:10).

B. Harmony and love in the body of Christ (Col. 3:12-14; Eph. 4:2-3)

C. Acknowledge God as the source of all power and strength (2 Cor. 3:5; Ph. 4:13; Isa. 40:31)

Conclusion:

A. Pride is our greatest spiritual danger.

B. Humility results in exaltation.
