Introduction:

A. Text: 2 Corinthians 4:7

B. We are interested in treasures.

I. The Treasure Is the Gospel of Christ.

A. The gospel is still the greatest treasure of all.

B. The gospel is the death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 15:1-4; Rm. 1:16; Mt. 16:26; 1 Pet. 1:18-19).

C. Many have sold their souls to sin.

D. The gospel of Christ is worth anything and everything (Mt. 13:44; Ph. 3:7-8;
Lk. 9:23; Rm. 13:11).

E. The treasure of the gospel must be seen at work in our lives (2 Tim. 3:16-17;
Mt. 5:6; Ps. 119:105; Eph. 6:13ff; Ps. 119:11).

II. The Treasure of the Gospel Is in Earthen Vessels.

A. We are only vessels—clay pots (Col. 2:3; Mt. 5:14; Ph. 2:15-16).

B. We are only earthen vessels shaped by the Maker’s hands (Eph. 2:8-10).

III. The Treasure of the Gospel Is in Earthen Vessels to Magnify the Power of God.

A. Consider those Jesus called to be His apostles (Acts 4:13).

B. Power is perfected in weakness (2 Cor. 12:9; Jud. 7:2).

C. The power is of God and not of man (Eph. 3:20).

Conclusion:

A. Will you rightly value the gospel of Christ as your treasure?

B. Will you receive His word today?
