Introduction:

A. Psalm 121:1-6

B. Our help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.
1. Nothing is too hard for the Lord (Jer. 32:17).
2. Need proof? He made the heaven and the earth.

C. We must connect our need for help to the infinite resources of God.
1. Genesis 1:1
2. “If we underestimate, overlook, or belittle this fundamental truth, our faith will be undermined; our hope will be diminished; and the help we seek will vanish altogether.”

D. There is an unmistakably clear message in God’s physical creation (Ps. 19:1-2).
1. Everything begun must have a Beginning Cause (Heb. 3:4).
2. The Beginning Cause must possess sufficient power and intelligence to explain the present material universe (Rom. 1:18-20).
3. What does all this have to do with help?
4. “Oh God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home” (Isaac Watt, 1708).

WHAT WAS GOD’S ROLE IN THE CREATION PROCESS?

I. “God is the Maker of heaven and earth” includes the entirety of the material universe.
(Gen. 1:1, 2: Hb. 11:3; Jn. 1:14, 1, 3).

II. Eliminates theories that add billions of years to the creation process.

III. The biblical record of creation (Gen. 2:1-4; Ex. 20:8, 11; Ps. 33:6, 9)

IV. Therefore, the Lord’s help is never too late! (Hb. 4:14-16; Is. 40:31; Ps. 40:1-3).
