Introduction:

Text: 2 Corinthians 5:9-11

Persuasion (Acts 2:40; 1 Cor. 1:18-21)

Why persuade others? (2 Cor. 5:9-11).

To please God (vs. 9)

To prepare for judgment (vs. 10)

Because we fear the Lord (vs. 11).

What Do People Need to Be Persuaded About:

Their sins (Acts 11:18; 2 Cor. 7:10; Jn. 16:8; Acts 2:37; 2 Sam. 12:5)

Their need for the Savior (Rm. 3:9; 6:23; Mt. 1:21; Acts 28:23; 5:42; Jn. 8:24;

Acts 26:38)

Their accountability before God (2 Cor. 5:10; Rm. 14:12; Acts 17:30-31)

How Do We Go About Persuading Others?

We persuade with the word of God (Lk. 16:27-31; Rm. 1:16; Jn. 6:45).

We persuade with a sense of urgency (Jn. 9:4; 4:35; 2 Cor. 6:2).

We persuade with a spirit of boldness (Eph. 6:20; Jn. 8:32; Acts 4:29).

We persuade with a spirit of love and concern (Eph. 4:15; 2 Tim. 4:2).

Who Should Be Doing the Persuading?

Those who are faithful to Christ (2 Tim. 2:2)

Every child of God must do his or her part.

When Should We Engage in Persuading Others?

“Now” is the acceptable time (2 Cor. 6:2).

While we have the opportunity (Gal. 6:10)
