INTRODUCTION:

We must preach the word (2 Tim. 4:2).

We must teach with authority (Mt. 7:28-29; Tit. 2:5).

ALL AUTHORITY ORIGINATES FROM THE FATHER.

Governmental authority (Rm. 13:8, 4)

Religious authority (Mt. 21:23, 25)

WHERE DID JESUS GET HIS AUTHORITY?

Establishing the authority of Jesus

Jesus claimed all authority (Mt. 28:18).

Direct statements from the Father (Mt. 3:17; 17:5; Jn. 10:33-36; 2 Pet. 1:17-18)

Statements from inspired writers (1 Tim. 6:15; Rev. 17:14)

Because Jesus has all authority, His word is authoritative (Jn. 3:27; 7:16; 12:48-49; Lk.6:46; Mt. 7:29).

HOW DID JESUS TRANSMIT HIS AUTHORITATIVE MESSAGE FROM HEAVEN?

Jesus sent His message to the apostles and prophets through the Holy Spirit (Jn. 14:26; 16:13-15).

The apostle and prophets were inspired by the Holy Spirit (2 Pet. 1:21; 2 Tim. 3:16; 1 Cor. 14:37; 2 Tim. 4:2).

ESSENTIAL APPLICATIONS:

We must abide in Christ’s word (Jn. 8:31-32).

Our message must be Bible-centered or it carries no authority.

We must handle His word with respect (Mt. 22:29; 2 Tim. 2:15; Ps. 119:160; Eph. 4:15).

CONCLUSION:

Our message is divinely powerful (Rm. 1:16).

Our faith must rest its power (1 Cor. 2:4-5).
