Introduction:

Important events require careful preparation.

“Prepare to meet your God, O Israel” (Amos 4:12).

Spiritual preparation requires three things:

A Clear Understanding of the Nature of Our Future Meeting with the Lord

A “fuzzy” view of coming judgment invites spiritual indifference.

Three motivations to careful preparation:

We are meeting God (Amos 4:13; Psa. 50:21; 2 Cor. 5:10; Eccl. 12:13-14).

No excuses will be accepted (Hb. 9:27; Mt. 7:21; Jn. 12:48).

Our meeting with the Lord will come unexpectedly (Mt. 24:42, 44).

A Clear Understanding of the Redemptive Work of Christ

Sin requires atonement (Is. 59:1-2; Jn. 8:34; Rm. 6:23).

We are unable to make adequate preparation on our own (Rm. 3:23; Eph. 2:8-9).

Only the blood of Jesus will do (Hb. 10:4; 9:22, 14).

His blood reconciles (Eph. 5:10; Eph. 2:13).

His blood redeems (Eph. 1:7; 1 Pet. 1:18).

His blood makes us alive (Eph. 2:1; Col. 2:13).

Jesus prepares us for eternity (Lk. 1:17; Jn. 14:1-3; Mt. 25:34).

III.       A Remembrance that Preparation Involves Both Heart AND Life.

We must prepare our hearts to meet the Lord (1 Sam. 7:2; Prov. 23:7; 4:23; 2 Chr. 12:14; Ps. 119:11).

We must prepare our lives to meet the Lord (2 Chr. 19:3; 27:6; 2 Tim. 2:21; Rev. 21:2).

Conclusion:

We must prepare to meet our God.

There is a great day coming.

Will you accept His loving sacrifice and prepare or reject His offer of eternal life?
